The Community Zone featured local inventor Robert Boehnlein on September 9th. Mr. Boehnlein has devised a specialized shower head called the Showerfish. The Showerfish saves consumers approximately 1.5 gallons of water per minute in the shower. When shower-heads are purchased, they put oout about 2.5 gallons per minute, but the American average is 3.5 due to the shower heads loss of pressure because of mineral build up. The Shower head saves on water and thereby fuel or electric costs to heat the water for the shower. Mr. Boehnlein also found some unintended effects while in the testing process. The shower head features a medical grade plastic that makes a hammering motion while in use. This hammering motion keeps mineral deposits from building up in the shower head, which keeps the pressure ideal. The hammering also gives a micro-pulsing action which is great for a relaxing shower to ease muscle tension. If everyone in Lewisburg could purchase a Showerfish, Lewisburg's water consumption for showering would drop from 216,112 to 86,445 gallons per day. That's approximately 40% of water saved!
