The community enjoyed a rally on October 7th in downtown Lewisburg. Bucknell students, staff, and locals all marched from campus to Hufnagle Park to show their support in fighting discrimination. The crowd filled the seating available at Hufnagle Park, and some rally-goers remained standing throughout the event. Speakers included students and staff, as well as members from local anti-hate groups such as (CARE) and Transitions. Speakers shared some of their own personal experiences with the crowd, and all participants reaffirmed their commitments or took up new commitments to always stop any hate form of bias they may encounter. The rally attendees aptly stated it is imperative to “see something and say something”. Whether it be due to race, class, sexual-orientation, or gender, nearly everyone in the crowd had experienced or witnessed some form of discrimination. Franklin Roosevelt attributed Edmund Burke to have said, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing”. With this in mind, the rally was an excellent reminder to the community to always step up and stand up for those in need.
